Fun in the water at Gisborne Aquatic Centre!

The two weeks are over! Swimming in Grade One has finished and what a better way to celebrate the final swimming session with a blown up water monster and fun games! Children walked the slippery back of “Gissy” the water monster and participated in water relays and noodle races! The children have worked really hard in the water for the last two weeks- learning floating skills, water safety skills, different stroke techniques and water entry. All children have enjoyed the swimming program and can’t wait to do it all over again in Grade Two.

What was your favourite part of going swimming with your class?

For parents- Did you think the two week intensive sessions worked well? Why/Why not?

Can you suggest any improvements that we can pass on to the Gisborne Aquatic Centre?

  1. Dear Ms. Hunichen
I had great fun at swimming. I like doing swimming lessons a lot. I’m sad I missed swimming on Friday when I was home sick. I will see you all at school on Tuesday and it will be my dad’s birthday.
    Love from Lachlan.

    • Dear Lachlan,
I’m sorry to hear that you were unwell and missed the last swimming session. You need to look after yourself though so I’m glad you stayed home and rested. You will be able to have a turn on the inflatable next time.

    • Dear Grace,
I’m glad you enjoyed the swimming program. I remember doing swimming at school when I was little, our classroom teachers used to take us in the water. I’m glad we don’t do that now, although I would like to have had a turn on the inflatable.

  2. Hi Tara,
the intensive program was great and well worth it.. Grace has swimming lessons outstide of this and her teacher saw an improvement with her swimming. Hope the school continues to do this.
    Regards/ Claire

    • Hi Claire,
Thanks for your valuable comments in regards to the swimming program. It’s pleasing to know that Grace’s swimming teacher noticed her improvements. We will endeavour to continue to run the program in this format.

  3. Hi Tara,
Nicky really enjoyed the swimming program. The intensive program was terrific – it really allows the children to reinforce their learning.

  4. Dear Mrs Hollands, I had a great time at swimming lessons, I liked the inflatable the best. Mum thinks having the lessons all in a row is a good idea. Have a good day. from Jake

    • Hi Jake and Lynda,
Thanks for comments about swimming. I agree- I think the 2 week swimming lessons were a great idea! Children got into a routine really quickly! The inflatable was fun as- I think something was missing though- ME!

  5. Dear Miss Hunichen,
My favourite thing at swimming was when we got to go on the inflatable and play games.

I was very fast at backstroke.

  6. Hi Tara,

Although I was a bit worried to start with that swimming every day would really wear Ethan out , it turned out to be a great 2 weeks and I think the children got a lot more out of it compared to when my daughter did it and it was once a week for 6-7 weeks.

  7. Hi Mrs Hollands,
I liked swimming because we all got to go on the inflatable, it was fun when we went down the slide and splashed in the water. It was cold when we went in the change rooms though.
    From Kyah.
